Abstract

This paper deals with the study of the simultaneous effect of bullet and barrel design parameters (width of the bullet driving band, size of the interference between the bullet driving band and the barrel bore grooves, and the size of the angle of the smooth and grooved parts of forcing cone of the barrel) on the start shot pressure (SSP) in the engraving process of the driving band of a 37mm bullet using the Taguchi method. The results show that the width of the bullet driving band (47.5) has the strongest effect on the SSP value, followed by the angle of the smooth part of barrel forcing cone (41.9), the parameters of the size of the interference between the driving band and the grooves and the angle of the grooved part of forcing cone of the barrel have little effect on the SSP value. The results of the paper are useful to focus the experiment study the influence of design parameters on the process of engraving of the projectile driving band into the barrel bore. © 2023 IEEE.
