The paper suggests a new method to localize drones based on a system of multiple directional antennas. This system consists of multiple similar directional antennas which are arranged to scan all observed space. Besides, the type of antennas is selected to ensure that the drone is usually monitored by at least 3 adjacent antennas. In this work, the drone’s position is determined through the intersection of 3 adjacent antenna beams. However, the drone’s transmitter power is unknown, so there is a set of points defined as positions of the drone corresponding to the transmitter power being vary. The drone’s exact placements will be estimated by the geometric method, and the authors use these estimated positions to predict the next flight range of the drone. The results show that this method may localize exactly the drone and predict the drone flight trajectory in the future. © 2022, The Author(s), under exclusive license to Springer Nature Singapore Pte Ltd.
