Abstract

This paper carries out the static bending and free vibration analysis of two-layer variable thickness plates with shear connectors. The finite element formulations are presented in detail and derived by using the finite element method and the well-known and simple first-order shear deformation plate theory of Mindlin. The present theory and mathematical model are verified by comparing the numerical results of this work with those of other reputable publications. A parameter study is conducted to capture the influence of geometric and material properties of the structure, especially, the changing law of the thickness and the shear connector distribution on the mechanical behavior of the plate. The numerical results of this work can be used as a reference for future related works, as well as the use and design of these types of structures in engineering practice. © 2021, Shiraz University.
