Electric discharge machining (EDM) has attracted a lot of interest from researchers. They found solutions to improve machining efficiency, rotary tool electrode assisted EDM (RAEDM) is one of those solutions. In this study, rotary tool electrode assists in EDM process to investigate and evaluate the effects of process parameters-i.e., peak current (Ip), pulse on time (Ton), and rotational speed of tool electrode (Srt) on surface roughness (SR) of SKD61 steel. Base on the experimental data obtained, the Response Surface Methodology (RSM) has been applied to establish a relational mathematical model of surface roughness and main process parameters of RAEDM. The adequate regression equation was assessed by utilizing the ANOVA, the ANOVA table also evaluated and provided the influence role of process parameters on surface roughness. In addition, the process parameters are also optimized to find the optimal SR. © 2022, The Author(s), under exclusive license to Springer Nature Switzerland AG.
