Different powders mixed into the dielectric fluid of electric discharge machining (PMEDM) were studied by a large number of researchers. Though, the investigation of tungsten carbide powder is very limited. In this study, the surface roughness (SR-Ra) results of heated treatment and non-heated treatment of SKD61 steel by electric discharge machining (EDM) process with the participation of tungsten carbide powder were investigated. The least-square method was used to model the relationship between surface roughness of heated treatment and non-heated treatment SKD61 steels and main process parameters including peak current – Ip, pulse on time – Ton, and powder concentration – Cp. These models were used to evaluate and compare the role of each technological parameters to the effect on surface roughness. © 2022, The Author(s), under exclusive license to Springer Nature Switzerland AG.
