Abstract

Amphibious guns play an important role in the combat of commandos and special forces. It is very difficult to locate records pertaining to the research, design, and production of weapons systems in general and amphibious guns in particular. This is comprehensible due to the question of intellectual property and the military secrets of the military superpowers. Therefore, this study has an important significance, contributing to our understanding of the mechanisms of action of amphibious guns when shooting underwater. The main aim of this paper focuses on the examination of the movement of amphibious rifles that have been mounted on a mount underwater. It investigated how different firing depths affect the movement of the gun. A comparison is made between the theoretical findings and those obtained by testing a 5.56 mm amphibious rifle while shooting 5.56 × 45mm underwater ammo in a water tank under various pressures of water, which correspond to depths of 0.5 meters, 5 meters, 10 meters, and 20 meters. The work can provide preliminary support if a real experiment at different firing depths is difficult. The research findings also provide a framework for designing and producing undersea weapons with adequate military capabilities for emerging defense industries. © 2022 Informa UK Limited, trading as Taylor & Francis Group.
