Abstract

This paper investigates the free vibration and dynamic responses of bidirectional functionally graded plates with piezoelectric layers excited by moving mass. The plate is made of bidirectional functionally graded material (2D-FGM) with metal and ceramic constituent materials whose mechanical properties vary in both thickness and longitudinal directions according to the power law. For the analysis purpose, a finite element model using a four-node rectangular element with eight mechanical and two electrical degrees of freedom per node based on the four-variable refined plate theory (HSDT4) and Hamilton's principle is derived. The Newmark method is used in computing the dynamic responses. The obtained results are compared with available data to demonstrate the accuracy and convergence of the model. Some new numerical examples are performed to investigate the influence of material, velocity, the weight of moving mass, and electrical and mechanical boundary conditions on the free vibration and dynamic responses of the piezoelectric 2D-FGM plates. © 2024, The Author(s), under exclusive license to Springer Nature Singapore Pte Ltd.
