This work presents a solution to reduce mechanical losses in the cylinder-piston group of a diesel engine. It combines an oval-drumshaped piston and a flat ground cylinder liner with an anti-friction coating on the surface. Technological processes are also presented in the work. In addition, the work also analyzes mathematical models to determine the mechanical performance of internal combustion engines and examines lubrication models in the cylinder-piston group. The work also presents and uses software to calculate the working cycle, kinematics, and dynamics of the connecting rod crankshaft mechanism to obtain input data for calculating friction force and power in the cylinder-piston group. Based on research, the work also proposes a formula to calculate the friction force between piston rings and cylinders in the case of a friction-reducing coating on the cylinder surface. © 2025 Mohamed Arezki Mellal.
