This paper investigates the wave propagation characteristics through vertical slots in both free space and within rectangular waveguides. Numerical simulations are conducted to model wave transmission through the slot under different conditions, and experimental measurements are performed to validate the results. The findings reveal that while the transmitted power through the slot remains constant, the resonant frequencies differ between free-space and waveguide environments due to the computational models not accounting for the reactive impedance of the slot. The study emphasizes the importance of calculating the reactive impedance of slots to improve the accuracy of wave propagation models. This information is crucial for applications in array antennas and phase shifter technologies, where precise control of wave characteristics is required. The results provide a foundation for enhancing the performance of future communication and radar systems. © 2024 IEEE.
