Abstract

The effect of nano-modification and high-energy mechanical treatment in a magnetic mill on the process of spark plasma sintering of iron micropowders is studied. Iron nanopowders with a mean particle size of 94 nm are obtained by the method of chemical metallurgy. The nanopowders are introduced into the original blend with the help of a turbulent stirrer and a magnetic mill. The processes occurring during the high-energy mechanical treatment and subsequent sintering are considered, and their effect on the properties and the structure of the sintered specimens is assessed. Optimum variants for fabricating the material are suggested. The results may be used in the production of high-quality permanent magnets. © 2021, Springer Science+Business Media, LLC, part of Springer Nature.
