This paper presents the identification of the modal parameters as frequencies, damping coefficients, and mode shapes based on using Arduino platform to measure oscillation signals of structure in time domain. The use of Arduino platform aims to reduce costs in the experimental field. Experiments are carried out on a cantilever beam; the measurement process collects input/output or only output signal. MATLAB software is also used for the computing and data processing; these signals are transformed from time domain to frequency domain by fast Fourier transform (FFT). Modal parameters are estimated in the frequency domain. Comparing obtained modal parameters from experimental method with those from analysis method. Results are found to be in agreement with the theory. © 2018, Springer Nature Singapore Pte Ltd.
